Jamaica Gleaner Letters
published: Friday | July 25, 2003

A phenomenal sprinter
THE EDITOR, Sir: USAIN BOLT, at his age, is the most phenomenal sprinter ever produced by the island of Jamaica - not even Dennis Johnson, Raymond Stewart, or Don Quarrie, ever did anything comparable at that age.

The road work has begun
THE EDITOR, Sir: I RECENTLY drove by the community of Hermitage in the constituency of Eastern St. Andrew and was very pleased to see that the long awaited work to repair and upgrade the Escarpment Road in that community had finally begun.

Help for the insane
THE EDITOR, Sir: THIS IS an open letter to the powers that be.

Stem drug importation
THE EDITOR, Sir: IDENTIFYING PROBLEMS is the first step in solving them. Everyone knows that Jamaica has drug problems, the world has drug problems but we need to deal with ours.

A geographical research question
THE EDITOR, Sir: Here is a question for geographical research: What is the origin of the name "Half-way Tree"? ...

No hope for fruits
THE EDITOR, Sir: WHEN A tree blossoms there is hope for fruits, though drought or heavy wind could destroy some of the blossoms but one could still have hope for some fruits.

Influenced by race consciousness
THE EDITOR, Sir: DAWN RITCH'S articles are for the most part well reasoned and critical analyses of her chosen topic.

The same customer base
THE EDITOR, Sir: AS I observed the demeanour of the gaming executive before the Taxation Committee, I wondered whether other Jamaicans recognize that the Finance Minister and the gaming executives share the same customer base.

Thanks for the car cleaning tip
THE EDITOR, Sir: PLEASE ALLOW me to laud Earl Harrison of Mandeville for his tips on car wash, published in The Gleaner recently.

Worthwhile investigating
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT IS fairly well known that some women throughout Jamaica who are unable to have children, will do almost anything to get children from others and who they will bring up and call their own.

Religion is religion
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM writing this letter in response to a letter entitled "Religion is not Christianity" that appeared in The Sunday Gleaner of July 20, 2003.
