No hope for fruits

THE EDITOR, Sir:
WHEN A tree blossoms there is hope for fruits, though drought or heavy wind could destroy some of the blossoms but one could still have hope for some fruits. But there can be no hope for fruits when a tree does not blossom, and so too, the economy of a country.
I now refer to my country, Jamaica. The Prime Minister, Mr. Patterson, told us to have hope for the economy. But how can we, when there is no blossoming of the economy such as new investments, jobs, security, justice? The fruit of a country is its economy. From this the people eat and drink. The signs for this fruit to develop its blossoms are investments, jobs, security and justice; thus springs hope that the tree will bear fruit that in time will grow fit and then ripen.
It seems as if Mr. Patterson is likening Jamaica's economy to a fig tree for that's the only tree that bears fruit without blossoming and that's a miracle of God and nature, which power Mr. Patterson and Dr. Omar Davies do not possess.
