THE EDITOR, Sir:
PLEASE ALLOW me to laud Earl Harrison of Mandeville for his tips on car wash, published in The Gleaner recently.
I must confess, that when I read his simple inexpensive method, it reveals readily the conservation of water usage but with the other component, the kerosene, I said, "No way".
But recently, I was faced with water problem and the car needed washing, and so, I decided to try his recommendation, having remembered that the kerosene is a liquid hydrocarbon and can be used as a cleaning agent.
Believe you me, it works beautifully.
Therefore, I wouldn't hesitate to pass it on for anyone to try it and be a cost saver.
The mixture and procedure recommended are as follows:- A bucket of water to a cup of kerosene. Use a clean soft piece of cloth to stir the mixture properly, then wring lightly and wipe the inside dash board, the entire outside body, wheels and under the fender in that sequence, wetting the cloth as necessary.
Afterward, rub with a dry soft cloth which will leave a lovely sheen.
Any member of the family will enjoy doing this exercise. IF the hands are delicate, put on a pair of latex gloves.
I am, etc.,
