Talmon Marco, CEO and founder of Viber Media, said Tuesday night that the service will soon be up and running, notwithstanding efforts by Digicel and LIME to derail it.

The two telecoms both blocked Viber – a popular service which allows users to make free calls on the internet. Digicel has also blocked other unlicensed VoIP services.

But Marco is unperturbed, telling Gleaner Business, that Viber’s system can bypass the blockage, although it may take some time.

“The Viber system automatically notices such blocks and bypasses them,” he said. “The Viber system should finish bypassing this block in the next few hours,” he said in a tweeted response to queries on Tuesday.

“Users should make sure they have the latest Viber,” Marco added, before taking a swipe at the local telecoms.


“Users may want to rethink their choice of carrier,” he said.
