Olympians Isa Phillips and Allodin Fothergill started their outdoor track and field campaign with double victories on the weekend at two separate meets.

At the Louisiana Classics on Saturday, Phillips, who represented Jamaica in the men's 400 metres hurdles in Beijing, captured the men's 200 and 400 metres. In the 200 metres, Phillips (21.07) defeated Olympic 100 metres silver medallist Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago (21.14), then captured his second gold of the meet with an encouraging 46.71 seconds in the 400 metres.

Nickeisha Wilson, who also represented Jamaica in Beijing in the women's 400 hurdles, also won at the meet, capturing the 100m hurdles in 12.90 seconds.

Fothergill, who was a part of Jamaica 4x400m team in Beijing, started his outdoor season with a bang after a low-keyed Indoor campaign. Competing at the Wake Forest Invitational Meet in North Carolina where he represented the University of Maryland Eastern Shores (UMES), Fothergill won the 200m on Friday's opening day in 21.23 seconds, then came back on Saturday to capture the 400m in 47.26 seconds.

Other victories

At the same meet, there was victory for Celia Whyte and a fourth-placed finish for Mereccia James. Whyte, the former Holmwood Technical middle-distance athlete and a final year student at UMES, won the women's 800m in 2:11.20. Her team-mate James, formerly of G.C. Foster College, finished third in her section and fourth overall in the 800m in 2:11.98.
