Meadhaven United held joint leaders and defending champions Portmore United to a murky 0-0 draw in Digicel Premier League action at the Constant Spring Football Field yesterday.

Meadhaven United are now on 25 points and Portmore United moved to 54 points with Harbour View, which drew 2-2 with bottom-of-the-table Reno (22 points) at Frome.

In another game at Lynch Park, St Georges Sports Club (38) and Sporting Central Academy (27) drew 1-1.

The wet and slippery surface proved difficult and did not provide adequate bounce on the ball. As the players skimmed and slipped all over the field, the ball stopped under the players' feet on most occasions.

Despite the dangerous conditions, Raymond Williamson of Meadhaven almost opened the scoreline with a powerful right-footed shot that was blocked by goalkeeper Shawn Sawyers.

A good chance

Just after the 11th minute, Portmore got a good chance when Ricardo Cousins passed to Steven Morrissey, who controlled and passed to Bryan Bayllis. The latter's finish looped above the goalkeeper and the goal.

Weston Forrest, who got a square from Adrian Reid on top of the penalty area, hit a looping shot that went over the head of goalkeeper Sawyers and his goal.

Kemal Malcolm, who came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute, almost made an immediate impact for Meadhaven after receiving a pass 20 yards out from Keammar Daley.

Portmore nearly scored three minutes later, but after receiving a pass from Eric Vernan, Tremaine Stewart shot wide.

"We got a couple chances that we could have put away," noted Portmore's coach Linval Dixon. "The conditions were really tough for play and for us to get our footing, but we will settle for the one point," he said.

Lijyasu Simms, the coach of Meadhaven United, said it was a positive result as every point is crucial.

"We are concentrating on getting every point that is there for us," Simms said. "It was wet and we didn't get to play the full Meadhaven football like bouncing around the ball. But we got a draw so I must say congratulations to the guys."
