Locals grab first innings

David Bernard Jr is bowled for six during Jamaica's first innings in the 11th round of the WICB regional four-day cricket match against the Combined Colleges and Campuses team at Sabina Park yesterday.
A half-century from opener Brenton Parch-ment guided title-chasing Jamaica to first innings honours over the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in their rain-affected 11th-round WICB regional four-day championship encounter at Sabina Park yesterday.
In a low-scoring contest, similar to their first-round showdown in Barbados when neither team made over 200 runs, Jamaica, resuming on 78 without loss in chase of the CCC's first innings score of 171, were bowled out for 229. The CCC were 22 without loss at the close of play.
There was no play in the entire morning after overnight and early morning rain left the field in an unplayable state.
Parchment, who resumed the day on 41, made 53, including three fours and two sixes, while his overnight partner Donovan Pagon got 48.
Captain Tamar Lambert, coming off a century in the last round against Barbados, made 16, Brendon Nash 17, and Carlton Baugh Jr a confident and typically aggressive 22, as Jamaica, seeking back-to-back hold on the title, were kept in check by tricky left-arm orthodox spinner Kavesh Kantasingh.
Non-stop bowling
Trinidadian Kantasingh varied his bowling to claim 4-71 from 39 marathon overs - 30 of which were bowled non-stop from the start of play. Ryan Austin finished with 3-57 off 19 overs, while pacer Kevin McLean grabbed 2-50.
Jamaica lead the championship standings with 84 points and could secure the title with an outright win.
The game format, which was reduced to three days after a players' boycott on Friday's opening day, was reverted to its original four-day schedule after consultation with both organisations.
T&T hold slight advantage
The Windward Islands, replying to Trinidad and Tobago's first innings score of 361, reached 134 for four at the close of the second day of their 11th-round WICB regional four-day match at Arnos Vale yesterday.
