Cellar team Village United collected their first point after several outings yesterday afternoon when the held Waterhouse FC to a 0-0 draw in their Digicel Premier League fixture at the Elletson Wakeland Youth Centre in Falmouth.

However, while Village United's player/coach, Eddie Kingston, was elated with the result, his Waterhouse counterpart, Paul Young, was disappointed with both the result and on the playing surface, describing it as below what should be expected for a Premier League game.

"This team beat us 6-0 in a Flow Champions Cup game just three days ago, so to take a point off them today is a big positive for us," said Kingston. "It is also nice to get a point because we have not gotten a point in a very long time."

Young, on the other hand, said: "It was a scrappy game for the most part and the playing conditions did not help.

"Nonetheless, we created enough chances to have won the game, but we simply failed to execute," he added.

First bright moment

After an enterprising start in which both teams showed much urgency going forward, Waterhouse had the first bright moment in the fifth minute when Damion Williams unleashed a superb lob, which caught goalkeeper Jacomena Barrett back-pedalling as the ball flew inches wide of the far post.

With the momentum swinging in their favour, Village created back-to-back chances in the 13th and 18th minutes, respectively, but Radcliffe Hall and Kingston couldn't score.

With a minute go in the half, Waterhouse should have scored but Andre Thomas' close range shot was wayward.

Village started the second half creating a good opening in the 55th minute when the overlapping Andre Moore fired a savage grounder, which was well save by Richard McCallum in goal for Waterhouse. A minute later, Waterhouse almost scored when Jermaine Anderson fired just wide after turning sweetly between two defenders.

Anderson again came close for Waterhouse when he muscled his way through the defence, but his shot went straight at goalkeeper Barrett.

Village now have 22 points while Waterhouse, at sixth, have 37.
