More laboratories required
Principal
of the Herbert Morrison Technical High School in St James wants
members of the Jamaican Diaspora to help build science and technology
laboratories across the island.
Paul
Adams said "science and technology would be the foundation
for transforming high school education and improving performance
in all subject areas in high schools".
"The
laboratories that now exist would never be able to produce quality
students," he added.
According
to Mr. Adams state-of-the-art laboratories are needed for students
at the junior level and those preparing for Caribbean Advanced Proficiency
Examination and the Advanced Level examination.
While
high schools should be outfitted with reading and mathematics laboratories,
until the problems at the early childhood level are fixed.
In
his remarks, Education Minister Andrew Holness said the National
Education Trust, which is to be established for infrastructural
development, would also be used to build laboratories in schools.
A draft
action plan for yesterdays education workshop will be presented
at the plenary session today.
The
conference ends today with focus on economic growth and Investment
development and the role of the church in social cohesion.
