Diaspora
plans
Members
of the Jamaican Diaspora ended their Third Biennial Jamaican Diaspora
Conference with several plans on the table for making an impact
locally.
Among the goals coming out of this years discussions were
the establishment of a Diaspora Institute and a Diaspora Bond.
The
bond is to be used to finance several initiatives proposed by the
Jamaican Diaspora.
Minister
of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Dr.
Ronald Robinson says next year is the deadline for having the bond
ready.
He
says a significant portion of whatever is raised from the bond issue
would be used to fund the establishment of an Education Trust Fund.
Yesterday
it was proposed that the Education Trust Fund be used to provide
well-needed school infrastructure and for funding scholarships and
bursaries for all levels of education locally.
The
two-day conference began on Monday at the Jamaica Conference centre
in downtown Kingston.
