CALYPSO DREAMS, the acclaimed documentary about the history of that sound in Trinidad and Tobago, makes its South Florida debut this week with a series of events in Miami and Coral Gables.

The events include screenings, panel discussions and a gala reception, all organised by the Consulate General of Trinidad and Tobago.

Dr Geoffrey Dunn, the film's director, along with co-producers Lord Superior (Andrew Marcano) and Alvin Daniell, will attend the functions which start on Wednesday.

Calypso Dreams was filmed entirely in Trinidad and Tobago over a three-year period. It has live footage of calypso legends like Lord Kitchener, the Mighty Sparrow and Calypso Rose, while there is narration by singers David Rudder and Harry Belafonte, the American who introduced the beat to an international audience with 1956's Calypso, which is said to be the first platinum-selling (one million units) album.

Guyana-born, Barbados-based singer Eddy Grant is the documentary's executive producer.
