Respect law and order

The Editor, Sir:

Kindly permit me to respond to Donna Henry's letter of March 24, as I wish not to believe that educated Jamaicans could condone such rubbish as to try and condemn Desmond McKenzie and the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation for the stop-order issued against illegal apartments being built.

I myself sat and watched the local news that evening and was thoroughly disappointed with the developer and his remarks as it pertained to the construction permission granted and the contravention they were, in fact, committing.

How is it possible for one to be granted permission to construct studio apartments, and, because of questionable motives, then go and construct one-bedroom apartments?

Hurting ourselves

I have come to realise that we, as a country, have given up our morals, but we should still strive to maintain our scruples.

People in Jamaica no longer respect law and order and, as one of our former politicians once remarked, "The man who plays by the rules in this country, is the man who gets shafted."

We need to recognise that we are only hurting ourselves in the long run and no one else.

Ms Henry, I hope my assumption about you was wrong, as it would be very sad to believe that well-thinking and educated people would condone such behaviour.

I am, etc.,

Jason Hall
