LETTER OF THE DAY - HIV epidemic deserves 'reality check'
The Editor, Sir: The activities for the past few weeks have been note-worthy in many ways. The people did not give the former Prime Minister her "mandate" and the one who left for the wilderness, returning as the prodigal son is now Jamaica's eighth Prime Minister. But when all the euphoria vanishes, what we are left with is the realism of the country in which we live.

Male exodus in US education too

The Editor, Sir: I am a graduate of the City University of New York and I must point out that this mass exodus of men from our nation's educational system is also very prevalent here in the United States.

Watch them, Portia!

The Editor, Sir: Thank you, Portia. You have promised to watch the JLP's every step and I am depending on you to do same. I can't understand why the Jamaican people cannot see that this is for their own good.

Good security action

The Editor, Sir: While Jamaica's attention is fixed on Bruce Golding, the nation's eighth Prime Minister, we must pause to commend the security forces for their tireless effort in maintaining law and order during the passing of Hurricane Dean and the recently held general election.

Taxation without representation

The Editor, Sir: It is with great distress and disgust to hear the recent announcement made by a JPS official, stating that an increase in the rate of electricity is forthcoming, because of Hurricane Dean.

School computers stolen

The Editor, Sir: Please allow me to express my regrets about a situation existing at Dalvey Primary School in St Thomas. For the longest while, teachers at the school tried and got two computers three were needed, one of the two was stolen.
