The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) has paid tribute to several long-serving staff members, among them one who has served the 44-year-old organisation for 35 years.
Dorothy Webb, of the JTA clerical and accounting department, started working with the association in 1974 and has served under five secretaries general, including the present one, Dr Adolph Cameron.
33 persons recognised
She was one of 33 persons recognised for their length of service.
Fourteen were hailed for 10-15 years service, while another 14 for 16-24. The JTA also paid homage to servants who had been with it for 25-35 years, while a citation was presented to Cyril Lebert, former president.
The workers were presented with trophies and cash awards at a ceremony held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa .
"We feel as if we're recognised and our services appreciated," Webb said in her reply on behalf of her department.
It was the first time that the association was honouring its staff in such a manner, and according to Cameron it was the least they could do.
"Nothing that the association could do tonight could adequately compensate you, I don't believe there is any other workplace you can see people so committed to their jobs. It warms my heart that we have been able to recognise your service," Cameron said.
'Congratulations'
President of the JTA, Doran Dixon said: "Congratulations! The association values your work and is forever indebted to you. It says something about an organisation which is 40-plus years, having persons serving for 35 years."
Dixon also had personal words of thanks for Cameron and Lebert who he said positively impacted his life.
