A big football double-header is on at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex this afternoon.
In the first game at 5;00 p.m., surprise team Meadhaven United will face former champions Tivoli Gardens in the final of the Western Union Jackie Bell KO.
Then at 7 p.m. Jamaica's Under-20 Boyz will face Costa Rica in a warm-up international for next month's CONCACAF play-offs to decide the four Under-20 World Cup qualifiers from the region.
Tivoli will start favourites for the Bell KO title. They have looked fairly comfortable in their run-up to the final, beating rivals Boys' Town 2-1 in the quarter-final, before an almost effortless 3-0 win over Duhaney Park in the semi-final round.
Confidently waiting
Tivoli Gardens assistant coach, Max Straw, stated that they are anxiously awaiting the game and is confident that the team will perform well.
"This is the second final we have reached for the season and we want to get everything right this time by taking home the trophy. We had a disappointing game on the weekend and we want to wipe the bitter taste from our memories. So this game will be crucial for us," Straw said.
Meadhaven have shown a lot of determination to date and are not likely to back down easily with the likes of striker Keammar Daley, Weston Forrest, Roger Rodney and Kevin Graham leading the charge.
Alrick Clarke, coach of Meadhaven United, stated that the team is in fairly good shape.
"It is a final and we can't be too prepared for them. We expect to go in and do our best. We can't just sit back and talk but perform," Clarke said.
A 22-member Under-20 Reggae Boyz squad has been named for the feature.
Five regular starters will be missing from the line-up. They are striker Alanzo Adlam, Christopher Bonner and Andre Blake, who are out on injuries; Evan Taylor and Dever Orgill, who is yet to arrive in the island.
The squad includes: Romario Campbell, Theo Brown, Andre Darby, Andrae Campbell, LeVaughn Williams, Andre Steele, Keithy Simpson, Davion Thorpe, Kemal Malcolm, Shamar Shelton, Andre Clennon, Shavon Brown, Roy Forbes, Kenniel Hyde, Damaine Thompson, Sean Fogah, John-Ross Doyley, Gariece McPherson, Peter Harrison, Rohan Roye, D'Andre Brown and Brenton Griffiths.
Hectic schedule
National Under-20 coach Donovan Duckie is confident that the young Boyz will perform well although the schedule for the next seven days will be hectic.
"I am pleased with the preparation of the team. The guys are confident and we are looking forward to this challenge. We know this will be vital preparation for us in order to match up with the teams in Group A of the CONCACAF qualifiers," Duckie said.
The squad is drawn alongside United States, El Salvador and either Honduras or St Vincent.
