PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Jamaica tightened their grip on their number-one Caribbean Football Union (CFU) ranking label yesterday when they jumped two places up FIFA's world list, to number 64.

Climbing from 66th position last month, Jamaica's Reggae Boyz increased their standing over nearest regional rivals Trinidad and Tobago, who slid five places to 78th in the February world ratings, released yesterday.

Recent sucess

This is the third month in a row that the Jamaicans are number one in the CFU.

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz had ascended 18 places in December up the world list - on the back of their Digicel Caribbean Cham-pionship success - to top the CFU ratings for the first time since June 2007.

There is no change among the top five CFU teams this month, with Cuba, 93rd in the world, still third behind Jamaica and T&T, with Haiti (112th) fourth and Digicel runners-up Grenada (114th) at number five.

Bermuda made a 15-place climb up FIFA's world list to 116th, moving them back into the region's Top-10 at number six, while Barbados dropped three places to 128th and are now eighth in the CFU.

Antigua and Barbuda are 122nd this month on FIFA's list - up five places - and remain seventh in the CFU. Suriname (129th) at ninth and Guyana (133rd), 10th, complete the CFU's Top-10.

World rankings

Meanwhile, the USA - now 20th in the world - are CONCACAF's number one for the fifth month in a row, ahead of perennial top team Mexico, 24th in FIFA, followed by Costa Rica (38th), Honduras (39th) and Panama, who leapt 33 places to 50th.

The Panamanians displaced Jamaica at number five and the Reggae Boyz are now sixth in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean, followed by T&T and Canada (88th).

The 2008 FIFA 'Team of the Year' Spain continue as the world's number one side with Germany at number two.

There are no changes among the world's Top-10, with the Netherlands at number three, followed by Italy, Brazil, Argentina and Croatia, with England eighth.
