Spanish Town, St. Catherine:

Residents of the St. Catherine South East constituency have expressed concern over remarks made by their Member of Parliament, Everald Warmington, to a media house, regarding a demonstration in the constituency.

Yesterday, when residents demonstrated over the poor state of the main road leading into Old Harbour, Mr. Warmington earlier refused to speak to the media on the issue, saying his constituents should have approached him first.

Out of line

Mr. Warmington's response has done him no favours with his constituents, who have said he was out of line.

"The man need to know that he did not elect himself, and even if the media didn't elect him, we the people demand that him talk to the media because we can't get to him," remarked Beverly, a resident.

When The Gleaner contacted Mr. Warmington yesterday, he said $4 million had been issued for work to start on the road but explained that massive damage was caused by the recent rains which also delayed the work.

He said he will be working assiduously to address the plight of his constituents.
