JLP demands timelines from electricity enterprise team

Published: Sunday February 15, 2015 | 6:58 pm Comments 0

The Opposition Jamaica Labour Party is demanding a schedule from the Electricity Sector Enterprise Team (ESET) in relation to its recent publication of the Integrated Resource Plan for the energy sector.

Opposition spokesman on mining and energy, Robert Montague, says while ESET should be commended for the plan, it must outline timelines so that progress of the implementation can be effectively monitored by the opposition and other watch groups.

The Opposition spokesman says since the announcement on February 3, there has been no update from ESET on whether it had sent a letter to the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS). Montague says ESET had indicated that it would send a letter authorizing JPS to proceed with the 190-megwatt generating plant in Old Harbour, St Catherine within a week of the February 3 announcement.

According to Montague, there has been no indication from JPS that it has received the letter.
