The fate of the national discus record holder Traves Smikle will be known on Thursday, when the Jamaica’s anti-doping appeals tribunal announces whether they have overturned a two-year ban imposed on the athlete.

Smikle returned an adverse analytical finding for the diuretic hydro-chloro-thiazide after competing at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association National Athletic Championships in 2013.

Smikle had claimed innocence and his lawyers led by Dr Lloyd Barnett established at his hearing in 2014 that the Jamaica Anti-doping Commission, had breached international testing standards in collecting urine samples from the athlete.

It took Smikle three attempts to provide the specific amount of urine required for the sample.

However, he delivered those samples in the same container, which is a breach of the procedures that requires an athlete to deliver each partial sample in a fresh container.

Smikles’ ban is set to expire in June.
