Defence counsel representing Kern Spencer and Coleen Wright yesterday secured an adjournment in the corruption trial under way in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey granted the adjournment after the defence requested additional time to peruse a statement extracted from Crown witness Rodney Chin on Monday evening.
Pusey, on Monday, had instructed that the prosecution, in the interest of fairness and justice, collect a statement from Chin about why he changed attorneys.
Chief prosecutor Paula Llewellyn was in the process of leading evidence in chief when she asked Chin why he changed attorneys. The defence objected, claiming that the area being explored by Llewellyn was not in the statements provided and thus it would be unfair to the defence.
Yesterday, Llewellyn told the court that the additional statement was provided. However, K.D. Knight, who is representing Wright, said the defence needed more time to read the statement and to consult with its clients.
The trial was adjourned until today, at which time Chin is expected to again take the witness stand.
