Art fest today

Published: Sunday | April 26, 2009

For the last six years, a part of the experience at the Liguanea Festival of Fine Art and Photography has been for children to have fun getting hands-on with the paints and clay in the workshops.

As the festival grows, so too has its scope of offerings to workshops with masters in their craft geared both to adults and children. No other festival in Jamaica offers you this much!

Today, as the festival comes again to the Liguanea Plaza, a master of paint techniques, Owen Beckford, will contribute his time, knowledge and skills, as will Wazari Johnson and his team, who will share their techniques with clay. British-born artist Viv Logan will also be stopping by to give some tips.

Beckford's paintings have been sold worldwide of values of up to several hundred thousand dollars, as his technique and imagery bring both enjoyment and investment opportunities for art lovers all over.

Johnson will again share his 'wheel-throwing' technique and his classes will be free. Classes for Beckford's workshop are two hours long, beginning at 10:30 a.m. for the children, at an unparalleled fee of $1,500 each, and for the adults, beginning at 2 p.m. with a packaged cost of $3,000 each. Both classes include a complete starter kit of all necessary materials, including canvas.

Come out for a wonderfully relaxing day, observing and meeting the artists. Don't be shy - ask questions on technique and the story behind each artwork.
