The organisation also presented bed linen and pillows during a brief handover ceremony at Mustard Seed's head office on Mahoe Drive, St Andrew. The gifts cost just over $400,000.

Heather Goldson, senior vice-president for marketing and products at Scotiabank, said the bank could not ignore an opportunity to help the needy children.

Need donation

"The institution was moved by the misfortune that struck the home and we realised that we had to find a way to help the administrators to recover from the disaster," Goldson said.

She further stated that she hopes the donation will help the Mustard Seed team continue providing quality care for the children who have nowhere to call home.

Father Gregory Ramkisoon, executive director of Mustard Seed, was delighted by the donation and said it would make a significant difference to childcare.

A number of private companies - among them, LIME and, most recently, Wynlee Distributors - have come forward with donations for Martha's House in the wake of the fire.
