NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CMC):
Jamaican jockey Shaun Bridgmohan sustained his steady winning form this past weekend, landing a pair of wins at two racetracks - Fair Grounds in New Orleans and Oaklawn Park in Arkansas.
The 29-year-old Bridgmohan, a former Churchill Downs champion jockey and Eclipse Award winner as North America's No.1 apprentice rider, won twice at Fair Grounds Saturday and landed a double Sunday at Oaklawn Park.
Second race
In Saturday's US$18,000 second race over a mile at Fair Grounds, the 7-to-2 second favourite After Noon Girl won for Bridgmohan by 2-1/4 lengths.
After racing with the front-runners from the start, After Noon Girl grabbed a clear lead entering the homestretch and moved clear to win with authority in one minute 42.00 seconds.
Bridgmohan also captured the US$46,000 eighth race over six furlongs with the 2-5 favourite Lightlightlight by 5-3/4 lengths in 1:10.63.
Bridgmohan won the US$17,800 fourth race on Sunday at Oaklawn Park over a mile with the 4-1 bet Service Hawk by a length.
Service Hawk came from behind and finished fast to collar the leaders in deep stretch en route to victory in 1:38.22.
Sixth race
Bridgmohan also landed Sunday's US$14,800 sixth race at Oaklawn Park over six furlongs with the three-year-old filly Beaded.
A 9-1 bet in a 10-horse field, Beaded was pushed to lead by Bridgmohan and quickened coming off the final turn for an easy win by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:11.09.
