Don't blame the DCS

The Editor, Sir:

With reference to your editorial of March 16, 'A scan-dalous affair', the Department of Correctional Services wishes to inform that Sheldon Pusey, who was on trial for the murder of Ambassador Peter King, is not and has never been in the care/custody of the department.

Remandees

Please note that all remandees in our custody are provided with breakfast before they are handed over to the police to be escorted to court. Additionally, they are given a snack (which may consist of a corned beef or cheese sandwich along with a box drink) to take with them.

It would have been prudent if The Gleaner had made contact with our department for clarifi-cation before publication.

I am, etc.,

JUNE SPENCE-JARRETT

Commissioner of Corrections
