Corporal arrests tardy Arnett with a double

Village United, after a superb performance in yesterday's opening game of the Flow Champions Cup, moved on to the next round after registering a 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
The Trelawny-based team registered their first goal in the seventh minute from Preston Corporal, who scored a penalty.
Twelve minutes later, Corporal slid home the ball to score the double from inside the six-yard box, as his team took an early 2-0 lead.
Slow start
Arnett Gardens were off to a slow start but after getting into the game, they scored their lone goal through Kevin Wilson in the 70th minute. Wilson fired home a pass from player/coach Fabian Davis.
"It's a nice victory. We have been searching a long time for it," said Mervin Whyte, coach of Village United, which drew twice in premier league matches this season.
"It's a game that we prepared for and knowing that we had Arnett Gardens in the knockout, we did our homework and saw their weak points and worked on it."
Davis reasoned that his team was let down by their slow start and failure to convert chances.
"I think Village had a pretty good start. It took us a little time to settle down. When we did, we started creating chances and searched for open passes to get behind their defenders. We did so on numerous occasions but if we don't score we can't win the games," he added.
In other games yesterday, Rae Town went down 2-1 to Reno at the Constant Spring Field. Gary McIntosh scored the double for Reno in the seventh and 14th minutes, respectively, while Ian Barnes scored for Rae Town in the 24th minute.
Eighth-minute goal
Jackie Bell KO finalists Mead-haven defeated NewGreen 1-0 with an eighth-minute goal from Rohan Williams.
Central were 2-1 winners over Frome as Ian Hanson scored in the 12th and 51st minutes. Adrian Robinson scored in the 81st minute for Frome. And Holland registered a 2-1 win over Prospect with goals from Orville Taylor in the 71st and Davion Wilson in the 26th minutes, respectively. Ricardo Richards scored for Prospect in the 50th minute.
