Politicians and their guns
1. The evidence seems to suggest that a majority of politicians are holders of firearms. Interesting, when one con-siders that many of them are assigned bodyguards. Last year, we heard about two instances in which politicians' firearms were stolen from their homes. Neither incident made the news. When one adds the most recent report of gun theft, it seems politicians need to be taught how to be more careful with these weapons, for if they fall into criminal hands, they could do irreparable damage.
Negril's death trap
2. The expatriate community in Negril is calling for action in the wake of the recent road death of a 26-year-old visitor from New Jersey. They are putting together a petition to demand the erection of speed bumps to transform Norman Manley Boulevard from a death trap into a thoroughfare that is safe for visitors and residents. There are indications that a motorist had stopped to allow the man to cross the road and even had his hazard lights on, but the impatient driver went around him and slammed into the visitor. It did not help that the police arrived nearly two hours after the accident or that scores of people were gawking at the victim's body.
Not enough
3. A 'measly' US$3,000 is how people are describing Jerome Taylor's prize money for his match-winning performance at Sabina Park this past weekend. Perhaps the sponsors need to review that figure.
Case of the missing pouch
4. The businessman is still hoping that the pouch which went missing at Sabina Park during the recent Test match will turn up pretty soon. He insists that he had vital documents in it, but would not say whether there was a weapon, also. From all reports, the hustlers and petty thieves had a bountiful harvest over the four days.
Debt burden
5. Those in the know say we haven't heard the last of the story about debt and borrowings. There are indications that the entrepreneur has left a trail of debt behind at each port of call and now he is seeking another lifeline. Who will answer this time is anybody's guess.
