Letter of the Day - A stimulant for economic growth
The Editor, Sir: The merger of the payroll tax acts may become the most effective stimulant to Jamaica's economic growth since Independence in 1962. Also, the merger provides an excellent opportunity to correct the flaws in these acts, which create confusion regarding compliance, and cause business closures.

Stop ignoring the issues

The Editor, Sir: I am responding to the address by the Lord Bishop of Jamaica and The Cayman Islands at the 138th Anglican Synod. The Church must become more active to deal with social issues that affect the nation. I do agree with Bishop Reid, but I have do draw the line now.

Why pray to Mary?

The Editor, Sir: I read with great interest Peter Espeut's column in Wednesday's edition (March 26, 2008) written from Lourdes, France, and noted his arguments in defence of the 'special attention' given to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, by Roman Catholics the world over.
