Audley Shaw, the minister with portfolio responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, is working feverishly along with his colleague ministers, to craft a supplementary estimates targeting areas of the budget where savings could be achieved.

This is expected to be tabled in Parliament when it reconvenes later this month.

Mr. Shaw, immediately after being sworn-in at King's House last week, told journalists that the supplementary estimates would accommodate the $15 billion unbudgeted expenditure the new administration inherited when it assumed office.

According to Mr. Shaw the big ticket items for his ministry were the additional $20 billion that was needed annually for the education transformation project and the completion of the highway construction projects.

Seeking cheaper funds

The minister reiterated his administration's commitment to seeking cheaper funds for projects from the multilaterals.

Mr. Shaw, a past student of Knox College, Holmwood Technical and a graduate of Northern Illinois University, was elected as Member of Parliament for North East Manchester in 1993.

He served as opposition spokesman on finance and shadowed other ministries, including information and culture; public utilities and transport and industry and commerce.

Mr. Shaw has been a deputy leader of the Jamaica Labour Party since 1999.
