Former champions Barbados registered their second consecutive victory in the Jean Pierre Caribbean Under-16 Netball Championships, following an easy 40-7 win over Dominica in the morning session of the competition at the Leila Robinson Courts yesterday.
Chemyne Alleyne led the way for Barbados with 21 goals from 29 attempts, who led 22-6 at half-time. The Dominicans, who lost their opening match to Jamaica on Friday, were outscored 10-0 in the third quarter by the Barbadians, who were in front 32-6 at the end of the period.
Alleyne received solid support from Sade Mariah Greenidge, eight goals from 11 attempts, and Shannon Hockett, six from 10, as Barbados cruised home for an easy victory over their opponents in the fourth quarter.
Denise Alleyne, assistant coach of Barbados, said she was expecting a much tougher game from her opponents.
"It was a very easy game for us because I think that the girls stuck to our game plan," said Alleyne.
Biggest threats
The Barbadians are considered to be the biggest threats to Jamaica for the title and according Alleyne, "Our main goal is to win this tournament and if we are going to win it we will definitely have to beat Jamaica and I think that we can definitely do it."
In other games, Trinidad and Tobago began the campaign with a comfortable 38-7 victory over the Cayman Islands. Samantha Wallace led the way for the Trinidadians with 23 goals from 30 attempts.
She received solid support from Kalifa McCollin, 11 goals for 12 tries, and Janice McIntosh, four goals from four attempts. Cayman Islands' Luona Benjamin, five goals from 19 tries, scored the most goals from her team.
