The thousands who attended the annual staging of The Best Dressed Chicken Fun In The Son gospel concert last Saturday at the University of the West Indies (UWI) left the venue beaming with joy as they were treated to several fantastic performances, with international act iROCC topping the list.
The fiery Atlanta-based gospel rapper, whose name stands for I Rely On Christ Completely, rocked the crowd with an electrifying performance.
Local gospel artiste DJ Nicholas also had a powerful performance. The crowd, knowing that the Back To The Owner evangelist was up next to perform, erupted, releasing a deafening scream that engulfed the UWI Mona Bowl.
Captive audience
DJ Nicholas came into his own early, and for the rest of his 30-minute performance, in which he sang Warrior and Nah Bow, he had the audience's undivided attention.
Goddy Goddy's slick dance moves onstage were second best to the lyrics he shared with the patrons, who had little time to recover as the performances came in quick succession.
Carlene Davis and Kevin Downswell were perhaps the two most-spirited performers on the night. Davis, who had her own back-up dancers, bonded with the crowd as she went down on her knees to sing Behold He Comes.
Downswell told the crowd "Just feel free to give God the praises." And they responded just the same. Occasionally, cries of "Jesus" echoed during his performance as emotions ran high.
Omari's time onstage was cut short, but he did enough to please the crowd, who sang word for word his popular songs, Tell Me A Who and After 12.
Female sensation Judith Gayle was powerful and energetic.
Earlier performances from Ryan Mark and Jason Mighty assured the patrons that the night was going to be something special. Ryan Mark's God Have Me Back ignited the audience. All in all, Fun In The Son did not disappoint.
