Winning start for Jamalco

Defending champions Jamalco made a winning start to their defence of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super League competition, with an easy 69-34 victory over Arnett Gardens on Saturday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
Former national captain and goal shooter Elaine Davis led the way for the Clarendon-based Jamalco with 51 goals from 62 attempts. She received good support from Marsha Murphy, who sank 17 goals from 21 tries.
Arnett Gardens' Sabrina Spence, with 26 goals from 40 attempts, and Shelly-Ann Davis, who scored six goals from 11 tries, were the leading scorers for Arnett.
Former champions Waulgrovians, led by Janiele Fowler's 55 goals from 69 attempts, thrashed Jetsetters 'A' 60-42. National Under-21 player, Crystal Gordon, with 33 goals from 46 attempts and Annette Miller, nine goals from 12 tries, scored the goals for Jetsetters.
Another big team, Tivoli Gardens 'A', defeated Windalco 44-30. Nerissa Gibbs scored 35 goals from 42 tries and Nicole Peart netted four from six attempts for the winners.
Ann-Kay Griffiths, with 18 goals from 24 attempts, Petal Smith, eight from 10 tries and Viola Francis, four from six, scored for the losers.
In the battle of the promoted teams, Speg 'A' got the better of Hampshire 'A' 36-35. Diana Dricketts 22 goals from 29 tries and Crystal Grant 14 goals from 24 attempts, did the scoring for Speg 'A'.
Meanwhile Police 'A' and Tivoli Gardens 'B' played to an exciting 40-40 tie. Niesha Howard, who hit 23 from 37 tries and Yvonne Simpson, with nine from 14, netted the most goals for Police 'A'.
