Sporting maintain perfect record

Sporting Central Academy continued their excellent run in the third round of the Digicel Premier League, as they registered a third straight win, beating Rivoli United 2-1 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Sunday.
The match, played under favourable weather conditions, saw the team from Clarendon taking the game to their St Catherine-based counterparts with a number of attacks.
In the ninth minute Linval Lewis got away from his marker and scored, setting off pandemonium inside the Oval.
The Rivoli supporters got something to cheer about when Valentine Gardener scored the equaliser for the home team at the 31st minute.
Cohesive
Both teams fought hard to gain the ascendancy before the interval, but despite their efforts, the defenders were equal to the task.
On the resumption, Sporting Central continued to play cohesive football through the efforts of Jevaughn Watson, Ian Palmer, Camaal Reid and Jamoly Powell.
The latter had the Rivoli defence under pressure and was duly rewarded in the 68th minute, after he beat Maurice Evans in the Rivoli goal with a shot that again gave them the lead, this time at 2-1. The goal set off another bout of celebration for supporters who journeyed from Clarendon.
It was evident that Sporting Central came well prepared to win, as they marked Devon Hodges, the league's leading scorer, closely throughout the game and this negated their chances of getting back on level terms.
Relegation
Coach of the winning team, Christopher Dawes, praised their effort.
"We came here to win and it is very good that it happened here today," said Dawes, whose team continued its climb from relegation and are now third from bottom on 23 points.
He added: "This is total fulfilment; they played according to plan."
Bradley Stewart, Rivoli's technical director, said his team played poorly.
"The team played one of the worst games here today. We surrendered the defence and that gave the opposition courage to come at us.
"There are other games, so we will go back to the drawing board,'' he added.
Rivoli, in the meantime, are eighth on 28 points.
