Cadet units add to discipline

In response to 'Daring act by Camperdown cadets' - I would say the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force (JCCF) is a disciplined organisation that takes on both military and civilian duties.
In its many years of service, the cadets, both male and female, are exposed to a variety of training conducted by military personnel that empower them to take on responsibilities as described by Cynthia Cooke, principal of Camperdown High School.
Great sacrifice
In 2005, after the passage of Hurricane Dennis, which had devastated sections of western St Thomas, the Danvers Pen bridge was damaged, leaving a lot of residents marooned between Serge Island and Danvers Pen.
It was cadets from the Morant Bay and St Thomas Technical High Schools who performed duties at the bridge for a period of two months in 90F temperatures.
Some of the finest individuals in our society today are prior members of the JCCF. In fact, Camperdown is a member of the Second Battalion, one of the JCCF's finest of which St Thomas is also a part. With regard to the Ministry of Education, the cadet force falls under its umbrella and every cadet parent is aware of the discipline that the cadet instructors instil in those young men and women.
Congratulations to those guys who have made Camperdown High, their parents, the individuals that they rescued, and the entire nation proud. Every public high school in Jamaica should have a cadet unit at its institution.
I am, etc.,
