A CONFIDENT 17-man Barbados squad arrived in the island yesterday ahead of a crucial matchup against leaders Jamaica in the fourth round of the WICB Four-Day Championship which bowls off at the Kensington tomorrow.

Currently in second place after recent convincing wins over the Leeward and Winward Islands, the Bajans now have their eyes on the top spot.

"These are currently the two top teams, it's always a good matchup when they meet so we are expecting a very close and competitive game," said Barbados team manager Livy Coppin.

"Our aim is come out with a positive result. This is a very important game for us and we are definitely looking for a win," Coppin said.

Impressive

The Bajans have been impressive in early-round play, especially in terms of their batting, where they racked up huge totals against the Leewards and Windwards. It is a trend Coppin hopes will continue when the team takes the field against the Cup holders.

"It is encouraging to see our batting come on, it is an area in which we have struggled in recent years. The bowling has always been fairly strong and with good batting in support of it we are looking to do fairly well," he said.

Although the Jamaicans are the defending champions, Barbados emerged victorious in last year's encounter.

Jamaica have so far registered outright victories over the Leewards and Combined Colleges and Campuses and have taken first innings points against Trinidad and Tobago.
