Arnett draw with Village

WESTERN BUREAU:

A STOPPAGE-time penalty given by referee Ricardo Sailsman allowed Arnett Gardens to eke out a 1-1 draw with Village United in their Digicel National Premier League game at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth yesterday.

Sailsman had to be escorted off the field as irate Village fans surrounded him at the end of the game voicing their disgust. An obviously shaken Village coach, Mervin White, commenting on the game, said, "We feel disappointed and persons must be more professional in what they do." he, however, did not elaborate on who the unprofessional people were.

Opponent outclassed

While Village did not get maximum points, it was vintage Village outclassing their opponents.

The first half could be regarded as shared but with the wind behind them in the second half, it was Village United all the way. It was no surprise when Fabian Dawkins scored in the 55th minute.

A goalscorer must at all times be given credit but the build-up to the goal was even more spectacular than the strike. Omar Allen determinedly brought back a Troy Smith lob which was heading out because of the wind. This fell into the path of Dawkins who rocketed the ball in.

The equalising penalty was scored by Kevin Wilson.
