SAVANNA-LA-MAR:

RENO WENT down 1-0 yesterday at home at Frome in Westmoreland to St Georges in a Digicel Premier League game which could have gone either way.

The visitors scored the lone goal in the second minute when a cross from Leon Irving of St Georges was deflected off Reno's defender Omar Johnson and went to Daniel Shaw who was lurking at the top of the 18-yard box.

Shaw simply knocked the ball into the goal without much effort.

Close calls

None of the teams celebrated after that but close calls were numerous. Reno should have scored at least five times and St Georges created two other scoring opportunities which could put more pressure on Reno.

St Georges' coach, Geoffrey Maxwell, was thankful his players played tactically well and that it paid off. He said that he was searching for three points and earning them from Reno in an away game was commendable.

Disappointing

Reno coach Wendell Downswell could not say the same about his team, acknowledging the result was disappointing.

He said he had been working with his strikers but they lacked concentration when it mattered most.

"The selection of technique is bad when they are in the box," Downswell said.

"It was our intention to earn three points but we were denied that," he said.
