Don't ignore morals and values
Published: Thursday | January 29, 2009
Over the past three years our country has seen a number of achievements by our people and a number of government positions being filled. We have also offered promotions to educated professionals, both local and overseas, and even those who proclaim themselves to be 'common sense' professionals.
Yet, we continue to allow not only adults but also the children of this nation to believe that as long as they achieve and make us proud with their achievements it is OK to ignore proper morals and values.
Condemn
I condemn anyone who attains any promotion or position without acknowledging the correct morals, values, principles and laws that govern our country. We have placed our country in such a serious position that even if someone does the right thing, like handing over a million dollars which they found to the authorities, we somehow find a means to question and condemn the person's action, as if it was the wrong thing to do.
We have lost our moral high ground and if we continue in this manner we will never restore the Jamaica which once existed to a place where our morals are acknowledge by everyone, especially our children. We continue to play the same 'dog eat dog' game while our children 'dagger' themselves to death.
I have been told by many that it's just the Bible being fulfilled and there is nothing we can do about it. But one needs to understand that even though the Bible said all these things would come to pass, it didn't say we should lie down, roll over and play dead. We should continue to abide by and enforce the laws of the land; a land which is governed by high morals and values.
I am, etc.,
