JCA to decide on election date today
published: Tuesday | September 16, 2008

The date for the election of a new president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) is expected today following a regular monthly board meeting of its directors.

The post of president, which was made vacant after the decision of outgoing president, Jackie Hendriks, not to seek re-election, will see incumbent vice-president, Paul Campbell, a businessman and marketing professional, going up against former West Indies and Jamaica captain, Courtney Walsh.

At the board meeting, it is expected that an audited financial statement of the JCA operations will be presented, following which questions will be raised as to its authenticity, and date for the election be set.

Based on the JCA constitution, members need to be notified at least 21 days in advance of the election. As a result, it is expected that election will be held in early October.

Meanwhile, information reaching The Gleaner is that both Walsh and Campbell were busy wooing delegates on the weekend.

The Walsh team, which is led by himself, incumbent director, Fritz Harris and Dennis Gordon, were in the parishes of Manchester and St Ann, while the Campbell team, which is led by incumbent secretary, Milton Henry, incumbent treasurer, Dave Cameron and Major Radcliffe Daley, were reportedly active on the South Coast.
