Open KSAC's books to public
published: Tuesday | September 16, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

We live in an age where technology in now an integral part of our lives.

I see that the mayor of Kingston is going around collecting fees for various kinds of commercial activities and I think this is good.

I think however, that the mayor needs to ensure that any citizen of the municipality should be able to get a look at the accounts of the council.

We need to know how these fees are spent and who gets contracts from the council.

Of course, there will be all kinds of excuses why this cannot be done. But I have a good idea to give the mayor - build a website.

It will not cost a lot to build one and it will go a far way in communicating to the people of Kingston and St Andrew as to why the council is relevant and what activities in terms of roads repairs, cost involved and who gets these contracts.

Finding out

Wouldn't it be nice that when a contractor does less than professional work on a piece of road, anyone can go on-line and find out who this contractor is? And even where the council is overspending on a project.

It should not take long to get this website up. Check any of the software houses and they can do this in a jiffy.

I am, etc.,
