Petcom, MegaMart inject $1.25 million in Portmore cricket

Petcom Limited and MegaMart have combined to inject over $1.25 million into the Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League this season.

The cheques were presented by the sponsors at a press conference at the Ken's Wildflower Restaurant, Sports Bar and Lounge along Port Henderson Road on Thursday.

Petcom, the main sponsor, will donate $750,000, which is above the $590,000 given last year, while associate sponsor, MegaMart, will be giving over $500,000, an increase from last year's sponsorship of $325,000.

Last week, the competition was called off due to the inclement weather.

Three games are on tomorrow - Colours International play Reid's Pen at Bridgeport sports ground, defending champions Ken's Wildflower welcome Belmont at their new Ken's Wildflower sports ground and MegaMart Developmental Squad battle Washington CC at Waterford High School. All games begin at 11 a.m.

Three advance in Under-13 league

Three teams advanced to the semi-finals of the Linford Jones Under-13 Football League this week.

Leaders Portsmouth (24) and joint second-place teams AS Roma (18), and Cumberland (18) are all through to the semi-finals as they cannot be caught by the trailing three teams with one round to go.

One spot is up for grabs with Waterford (eight) and Passagefort United (seven) in with a chance of snatching that place. This opportunity was made possible by Waterford's shock 3-2 win over Cumberland at the Cumberland playing field on Wednesday.

In that game, Raheem Palmer (40th), Romario Thompson (44th) and Raheem Palmer (50th) scored for Waterford while Ramone Wright (20th) and Chevaughn Walcot (41st) netted for Cumberland.

No date is set for the semi-final.

Meanwhile, the Ian Gardner Under-13 knockout trophy, with the four top teams, will kick off on Monday. The games will play at the Cumberland playing field.
