Neighbourhood shocked by Miss B's death
published: Saturday | August 23, 2008

Mrs Barbara Langley-Davis, affectionately called 'Miss B' and 'Miss Barbara', died on July 21. Miss Barbara's death sent shockwaves throughout her neighbourhood of Chang's Avenue just outside May Pen, Clarendon where she was well known and loved.

Condolences

Scores of friends expressed condolences that day as they streamed into her home. Miss Barbara was a kind, hardworking wife and mother who was known for giving bags of ground provisions and fruits to her many neighbours. This she would religiously do after her trips (sometimes with her last daughter Sheena) to her parents' farm in Beckford Kraal, Clarendon.

Knocking

When Miss B came knocking at your gate sometimes in the night, you know that she had a bag for you with some fruits, a piece of yam and a roast breadfruit. One neighbour said that people could not get hungry at Chang's Avenue because of neighbours like Miss Barbara.

She was a kind soul who was also a good cook and many could attest to her culinary skills because she was always taking various dishes for them 'to taste'. One neighbour and friend said that Miss Barbara was like a 'second mother to her children'. In addition to her mother, Mrs Langley-Davis died leaving to grieve her husband Kiah, three daughters, two sons, one grandson Damani and brothers. Her funeral service was held on Saturday, August 9, at the Denbigh United Church and interment followed in the family plot at Beckford Kraal.
