Hundreds turn out at slain cop's funeral
published: Saturday | August 23, 2008

Andre St Aubyn Whyte had glowing tributes in songs and speeches paid to him at his funeral service held on August 11 at the Glengoffe Pentecostal City Mission Church.

Hundreds attended his funeral service to say farewell to a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who was murdered in early July. The mourners, led by Commissioner of Police Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin and Senator Authur Williams, vowed that they will hunt down the killers of the late policeman. They also encouraged residents to support the police by giving information so that they can solve crime across the country.

Tears

Many were in tears during the singing of songs such as, Somewhere around God throne, What a sunrise and The eyes of the storm. The police choir gave items of songs which were well received and the chairman of the Police Federation, Corporal Raymond Wilson, echoed the call for persons to assist the police with information to get criminal elements out of the society. "They continue to prey on unsuspecting persons and it has to be a collective effort to deal with this problem," he said. Whyte is the ninth policeman to have been killed since the start of this year.
