Clarendon gets behind Olympians
published: Thursday | August 21, 2008

Dwight Nelson, Gleaner Writer

Clarendonians, like other Jamaicans, have rallied behind the country's Olympians following their outstanding performances at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and have this to say:

Andrew Mitchell (39), May Pen businessman

I think yesterday's events were fabulous as the athletes showed a lot of greatness in achieving two gold medals and smashing records. It's a great feeling for all Jamaicans.

Paul Rose (33), mechanic

It has been a great day for Jamaica and the wider Caribbean as we have showcased our talent by taking two gold and setting two new records.

Consie Donaldson (47)

It was beautiful and stunning and I don't think we can ask for more. Two Gold medals and two world records with the chance of getting more is just great.

Jeffrey Downer (38), security guard

Phenomenal performance by all the athletes yesterday even Alwin Sappelton who did not make it to the 800m finals displays great sportsmanship.

Noel Mais (58), electrician

It was a golden day for Jamaica and I think the name Bolt just fits the description of the man.

Melbourne Mitchell (50), plumber

I feel proud to know that we are on top of the world because we have shown our dominance today.
