The Editor, Sir:
The headline on Monday (August 4) rightly noted that the Olympics fever is rising.
I look forward to the Olympics because of the sense of national unity it fosters in Jamaica. For a couple of days, everyone will be glued to their televisions and radios, and we will all have one common goal in mind: sweet victory!
I look forward to the Olympics, when Jamaicans everywhere will share in the successes of our athletes, and the entire nation will become enveloped in pride.
I anticipate the media overflowing with news of how our athletes are faring in Beijing, instead of crime, murder and depressing deaths.
Some innovative Jamaicans will find their way to China and manage to get caught on camera in our national colours, and at home, the pot covers, graters and forks will become instruments of jubilation.
I look forward to the Olympics. I really do, because that overwhelming, national feeling of hope is a rare and precious thing.
I am, etc.,
