One language, one speech
published: Wednesday | August 6, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Regarding Patois Bible translation. I have a big problem and some questions.

My Bible in front of me, Genesis Chapter 11 verses 1-2 reads, "And the whole earth was of one language and one speech". I hold no brief for one side or the other, however, I would love to hear the truth because the whole world is becoming Babel.

As a matter of fact, for any nation to claim any language to be theirs, they must produce the speech before Babel. We would have to burst our brains to find out what was the name of the language before Babel.

As for the name Babel, it characterises the whole world and one would have to be a real dunce not to know the meaning of Babel.

For anyone to rise up today and say they are translating the Bible into Patois, this energy could be used in a more uplifting and productive way.

Surely, if we want to help our own race or nation, we can or should study to know what was the language before Babel and more than that, study to know who Jesus is.

There should be no time lost in this because in all our troubles only Jesus can deliver us. We can spend all our time on any man we may be interested to know.

The language before Babel was 'unity'. If we spend all our time translating this, we will do a world of good time well spent. Jesus help us.

I am, etc.,
