The Editor, Sir:Perhaps there is a pressing need for some rookie members of parliament to be given an elementary course in the modes and mores of their jobs. There are those who seem unaware that they are paid by all the people to work for and report to all residents of their respective constituencies.
In The Sunday Gleaner of August 3, there appears a half-page advertisement in which the MP for Central Manchester makes what he calls a 'Quarterly Report to Constituents'.
Good idea
This is a good idea that became corrupted when he chose to illustrate the ad with the logo of the PNP. The conclusion must be drawn that he is yet to learn the difference between his political party activities and the work for which he is paid by citizens of all political persuasions.
It has been reported that the Government is paying the salaries of certain MPs to a political party, which, in turn, remunerates the people's elect. If this is true, it is a practice that should be terminated. It might strengthen the belief that obligation to party supersedes duty to the people.
I am, etc.,
