NOTE-WORTHY

Resume hanging

It's a sad state that gunmen can wreak havoc on our country the way they do. To hear that two more members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were gunned down is a clear indication that lawlessness is on an ever increasing tempo. I think the resumption of hanging should be brought to the forefront. When these criminals commit vicious acts of mayhem, they jeopardise the country's stability.

It is customary now for humanitarian groups to lash out at extra-judicial killings, but what about the lawmen that lose their lives as well? Hanging should be resumed, for it will send a message that no one is above the law.

It would send a message that citizens want to work and enjoy themselves without fear for their lives. It would definitely send a message that we want a safer tomorrow for our children and greater productivity for Jamaica.

Proud of Jamaica

I am a regular reader of your columns. I am currently living in the United States, but I am very proud of Jamaica. My island is a God-blessed island. Thank you, Jamaica. You are the best, hold your chest. We little but we talawah.

Hang them high

I read in The Gleaner dated July 30, a letter titled 'Public Flogging, but not hanging'. The writer quoted 2 Timothy 3: 1-5, St Matt 24:7, but these scriptures have nothing to point out about public hanging or public flogging.

We read in St Matt 27 where Jesus and two thieves were hung in public. Jesus did not hang on the cross for the sins of his own, but He was hanged to save the world.

Why can't the murderers hang to save those people they have left on their murder list. I want to let the writer know that the Bible has the answer, Genesis 9:6 "whosoever sheddeth man's blood by man shall his blood be shed". Hang them high.

The human rights people must take the blame for the killing that is taking place in this country. The murderers know that they can kill and kill and kill and get away. In 2 Kings 14:6, "every man shall be put to death for his own sin". Hang them high.
