It was an exciting end to the Supreme Ventures Netball League at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Sunday as Jetsetters C defeated Duhaney Strikers 28-22 to take the Division C title and Speg A whipped Maxfield Park 42-27, winning the Division A trophy.
In the Division C final, Jetsetters led 7-5 at the end of the first 10-minute quarter, 16-10 at half-time, and 15-25 at the end of the third quarter, before moving on to victory.
Peta-Gaye Hardy was the highest scorer for Jetsetters C with 18 goals from 22 attempts, supported by Ovorita Portious with 10 of 14 attempts. Portious was voted the Most Valuable Player. For Duhaney Strikers, Latara Silvera netted 16 goals from 18 attempts and Ann-marie Walker six of seven.
Disappointment
Klayto Sutherland, coach of Duhaney Strikers, expressed disappointment because they were the top team in the C League prior to the final, having won all their games.
"We have beaten Jetsetters C before and the girls came expecting to win. That did not materialise and it was very disappointing for them. However, reaching the finals is one of our biggest successes," he said.
The Supreme Ventures League Scholarship Awards were presented to Venice Rumble of Duhaney Strikers and Shanique Roberts of Jetsetters C.
Highest scorer
Crystal Grant was the highest scorer for Speg A with 23 goals from 27 attempts, supported by Dianne Dricketts with 13 of 27 and Lilieth Myers six of seven attempts. Grant was voted MVP for the winning team. Kemilia Strachan had 18 from 23 attempts and Marsha McLarty seven from 11 attempts for Maxfield Park.
Speg A coach, Arlene Findley, said: "We remained focused and played well. The important thing is that we played as a unit and that was a major factor in our success this evening," Findley said.
The Supreme Ventures League Scholarship Awards were presented to third-place Marsha Reid of Blades United and Kerine Crawford of the runner-up team, Maxfield Park.
Tracey Ann Griffiths of Speg A received the SVL Scholarship for the winning team.
