Hutchinson
J.C. HUTCHINSON, state minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, has promised a value-added production facility in his North West St Elizabeth constituency, to help Jamaica in its food security quest.
In his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament last Thursday, Hutchinson spoke of the production facility to be located at Holland.
Ambitious project
"This project is an ambitious project being put together by agriculturists and entrepreneurs within the constituency," Hutchinson said.
The Holland Production Centre, to be located on 100 acres of lands in St Elizabeth, will include a grading and packing station for fruits and vegetables, a processing plant, greenhouse for the cultivation of cash crops, as well as ornamental fish tanks.
Hutchinson envisions the centre having an abattoir, art and craft shop, food court, chips plant, biodigester, animal market, cold storage and farmers' store. He told Parliament solar energy would be used to run the complex.
