Waiting on Tufton
published: Wednesday | May 28, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

If the Minister of Agriculture Dr Christopher Tufton fails to sensitise Jamaicans to revive, and grow the agricultural sector, which will be one of Jamaica's vital areas to defend us from the full force of the world food shortage, the Jamaica Labour Party Government will likely fail too.

Rice and cassava farmers across the island are willing and ready with other farmers to grow the commodities to ease the country's food shortage, but they are waiting on Dr Tufton's slow intervention to run with the country's best hope of creating jobs, jobs and a vibrant economy in this unfriendly global economic condition.

The longer Mr Tufton takes to send the farmers back to their farms with a clear vision, subsidies, markets and more farm lands, the perverse People's National Party will soon be ruling this country again, and will do so for more than 50 years to come.

I am, etc.,
